Winter X Big Air Gold belonged to Stale Sandbech. Until it didn’t. He landed everything he wanted to land – backside triple with an Indy and a frontside 14 – and waited at the bottom, with the seconds ticking off the clock. He sat in first. Only his buddies, Torstein Horgmo and Mark McMorris, the past two Gold Medalists in the event, were still to go. They’d been struggling all night. Then Torstein landed his switch backside triple cork 1440 and McMorris followed with a cab triple underflip 1440, and suddenly Stale’s Gold was gone. The Triplefest was complete. He was left with Bronze. He was still stoked. His buddies beat him fair and square. A Bronze still tasted good to the young Norwegian.
